Introduction

Cobalt is a self-hosted, Cloudflare-native publishing platform. Think WordPress or Ghost, but built for the edge instead of a server you have to babysit.

You deploy Cobalt to your own Cloudflare account. It's your Worker, your database, your domain, your data. One deployment runs one site, same as self-hosted WordPress or Ghost. There's no central Cobalt-hosted service, no account to sign up for, and no one else's infrastructure sitting between you and your readers.

Why not just use WordPress or Ghost

Traditional CMS platforms assume a server. PHP-FPM, a reverse proxy, plugin dependency hell, a box you have to patch at 2am when something breaks. Cobalt skips all of that:

• Cloudflare Workers instead of a long-running server process
• R2 instead of a local filesystem for media
• Postgres through Hyperdrive instead of a socket on the same box
• KV and the Cache API for edge caching, instead of a page-cache plugin

Publishing, SEO, analytics, and media handling are built in. Not bolted on through a plugin marketplace you have to trust.

Project status

Early. Under active development. The database schema, Worker foundation, and CI are in place. Auth, the editor, media handling, SEO tooling, and analytics are still being built. Expect breaking changes until there's a tagged release.
